Dewey Hanes Neal

Neal Yadkinville- Mr. Dewey Hanes Neal, 83, of Cox Mill Road passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born June 24, 1928 in Forsyth County to the late Walter "Jack" and Pearl Warren Neal. Mr. Neal was retired from Western Electric/ A.T.&T. He was a faithful and active member of Center United Methodist Church, where he served the church as a Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Cemetery Committee, Flag Committee, and Church Trustees for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. Mr. Neal was an active member of the Yadkin VFW Post 10346, Yadkin VFW Post 10346 Memorial Honor Guard, and American Legion Post 505. He loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with various water sports. Dewey was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his family. He was a man of strong will, courage, and faith to his family, friends, and to his Country, the United States of America. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Neal Harrison, a brother, Raymond H. Neal and sister-in-law, Frances Glenn Neal. Surviving are his beloved wife of 38 years, Blanche P. Neal, of the home; son, Robert (Janet) Neal, Belews Creek; daughter, Annette N. (Ed) Cross, Gastonia; 2 grandsons, Joseph Neal, Walter Neal; a granddaughter, Abigail Cross; sisters, Wilma N. (Gerald) Hendrix, Kernersville; Kathryn (Burnis) Sell, Belews Creek; brothers, Troy S. (Margaret) Neal, Kernersville, W. Harvey (Jeanette) Neal, Walkertown; aunt, Treva Neal Martin, Belews Creek; uncle, Irvin W. (Mildred) Warren, Boynton Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday at Center United Methodist Church by Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Jimmy Pardue. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
