Tony Gayle Mathis

Mathis Elkin - Tony Gayle Mathis, 76, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born January 18, 1936 in Yadkin County to the late William Parks Mathis and Alma Ozell Long Mathis. He is one of the founders of the Yadkin County Cruisers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dina Underwood Mathis. Surviving are his wife, Linda Darnell Mathis; children, Keyna (James) Vestal, Greg (Christine) Mathis, Danny Mathis; step children, Jones Darnell (Partner- Jeff Taylor), Julie Darnell; brother, David (Mary) Mathis; grandchildren, Bart Mathis, Samantha Mathis, Tony Vestal, Kendra Vestal; step grandchildren, Lindsay Blaker and Brody Blaker; special aunt, Arnett Brannon; special cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. His funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012 at Cool Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. David Key and the Rev. Russ Nixon. Burial will follow at West Yadkin Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank Forsyth Medical Center CVISU, Dr Bret D. Borchelt and Candy Johnson for all the love and great care shown to Tony. Memorial can be made to Disable Veterans National Foundation, 1634 "Eye" Street, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20006.
