Sonny Paul Day

Day Gastonia - Jackie "Sonny" Paul Day, 83, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016. He was born March 4, 1933 in Forsyth County to the late Joe Ring Day and Mary Belle Deal Day. Sonny graduated from Jonesville High School where he played football and basketball. He joined the U.S. Army and was station in Alaska. Early in his life he attended Jonesville 1st Baptist Church. Sonny was a fireman in Salisbury and then for 32 years he worked for the state of N.C. as a Driver License Examiner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Banner and Betty Jo Haynes. Surviving are his wife, Lois Faye Bass Day; children, Paul Bradley (Gina) Day, Sharon (Richard) Hedgepeth; grandchildren, Levi Day, Kaitlin Lowe; sister, Lucille Furches; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Gentry Family Chapel in Jonesville by the Rev. Dennis Pruitt. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with military rights by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville.
