Alice Slater Carter

East Bend Mrs. Alice Virginia Slater Carter, 86, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at SECU Hospice Care Center. Mrs. Carter was born July 24, 1936 in Forsyth County to Enoch Ray Slater and Velma McKnight Slater Doub. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and giving to others in her community. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Dwain Curtis Carter; a son-in-law, James Matthews; two sisters, Betty Saunders and Alma Slater; and brothers, Tom and John Slater. She is survived by her three children, Diane (Carlton) Hartley, Tony (Annette) Carter, and Darlene Matthews; grandchildren, Lindsay (Joey) Miller, Emily (Joe) Miller, Hayley Carter, Brandon (Nicole) Testerman, and Tyler Testerman; great grandchildren, Adam Joe, Tanner, Garrett, Lily, Sam, and Emma; a sister, Della Hobson; a sister-in-law, Velma Slater; very special friends who cared for and supported her for many years, Glenda and David Allred; and special neighbors, William and Jamie Slater and Shermer and Shirley Jones. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM, Saturday evening at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Mrs. Carter. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church Family Life Center Building Fund, 6321 E Old US 421 Hwy, East Bend, NC 27018 or to Mtn. Valley Hospice PO Box 1267 Yadkinville, NC 27055. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Carter family.
