Amburn Murray Haynes

Mr. Amburn Murray Haynes, 93, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025. He was born on May 3, 1932 in Yadkin County to the late Ruffin McKinley Haynes and Sarah Sophronia Groce Haynes. Amburn served in the United States Navy where he retired after 20 years of service. He was patriotic and was proud to have served his country. He was part of the work force for the Cuban Missile Crisis and they received a commendation for their service during that time. He enjoyed working on and collecting classic cars, specifically Corvettes. He knew all things about the history of World War II and enjoyed watching war movies and westerns. Amburn was a dog lover, but his most important and favorite role was being a grandfather to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Haynes; sisters, Myrtle Haynes Shore, Gladys Haynes Wagoner, Sadie Haynes Speer, Dorothy Haynes Wooten, and Connie Haynes Carlton; and brothers, Tom Haynes and Jack Haynes. Amburn is survived by his children, Ricky Haynes, Roxanne Johnson, Leigh (Gary) Matthews and Tommy (Gale) Haynes grandchildren, Brooke (Chris) Stanley, Nikki (Adam) Broussard, Zack (Kayla) Matthews, and Cary Anne Matthews; great grandchildren, Dylan Johnson, Max Stanley, Grant Broussard, Harrison Broussard, Maylee Matthews, Jovie Matthews, Harlow Matthews and baby Matthews.

A funeral service for Amburn will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel of Yadkinville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Burial will follow at Yadkin Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors presented by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. 

The family would like to especially thank Dr. James McGrath for his compassion and care over Mr. Haynes. It will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yadkin VFW Post 10346 at 3047 US HWY 21, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
