Mr. Arthur “George” Vestal, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. He was born in Yadkin County on January 28, 1941 to Frank Linney Vestal and Lois Bryant Vestal. George worked at R.J. Reynolds as a chief mechanic and retired after 36 years. He raised beagles for most of his life and was the president of the Carolina Beagle Club. George was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing at the coast, going to the mountains, and riding his tractor around the house, always keeping their home beautiful with the many projects he would work on. George was a talented musician, often playing the piano and singing. You could often find him with a Pepsi in his hand. He spent many years as a Sunday School teacher and a deacon. Later in life, he was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church, where he was very active up until his health began declining. Once he was unable to get out as much, he spent a lot of his time listening to Dr. David Jeremiah’s messages and The Gaither’s gospel music. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. George loved having them visit as often as they could, and watching his grandson in the rodeo. He had a heart of gold and loved helping others. He would truly give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was well loved and will be deeply missed.
George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hattie H. Vestal; children, Tammy Vestal and Linnie Vestal; grandchildren, Meggan Hennings (Bryce) and Jacob Heath (Mattie); great-grandchildren, Hattie Jo Hennings, Harper Hennings, and Sadler Heath; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunts and uncles, Junis and Maxine Allen, and Hugh and Mary Goforth; and brother-in-law, Melvin Hutchens and wife, Jessie.
