Mrs. Audrey Steelman Hutchins, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Yadkin Nursing Center, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and enduring love.
Born September 2, 1924, in Yadkin County, Audrey was the daughter of the late George Leak and Bernice Hutchens Steelman. She was a woman of remarkable dedication and quiet strength, whose life was deeply rooted in her family, her work, and her faith.
Audrey was well known in the community as co-owner and operator, alongside her beloved husband, Robert Lee “Junior” Hutchins, of Firestone Home and Auto Supply in Yadkinville. Earlier in her life, she devoted 25 years of service to James Williams Printing Company. Through her work and daily interactions, she built lasting relationships and earned the respect and admiration of many.
A faithful servant of God, Audrey was the oldest member of Center Global Methodist Church and had also attended Yadkinville Presbyterian Church early in her marriage. In both congregations, she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, sharing her love of scripture and nurturing the spiritual lives of others.
Audrey found joy in life’s simple pleasures—working crossword puzzles, reading, and traveling—but her greatest joy was her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished every moment spent with those she loved. Her life was a testament to kindness, humility, and service, and she will be remembered for the warmth she extended to all and the friendships she treasured throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee “Junior” Hutchins; her son-in-law, Fairrell Myrick; her sister, Sue Lakey; and her brother, G.L. Steelman.
She is survived by her beloved children, Linda Myrick and Robert (Evyonne) Hutchins; her grandchildren, David (Kim) Myrick, Melinda (John) Duarte, Anne Marie (Mackie) Pritchard, Natalie (Tracy) Kimmer, and Jonathan (Anna) Hutchins; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love and faith.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel, officiated by Rev. Andy Lambert and Rev. Rex Cranfill. Interment will follow in Harmony Grove Friends Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harmony Grove Friends Cemetery Fund.
Audrey’s life was a beautiful reflection of devotion—to her family, her faith, and her community—and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
