East Bend -  Mr. Benny Lee Pendry, 87, of Smithtown Road passed away peacefully Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born March 25, 1936 in Yadkin County to the late James Montgomery “JM” and Martha Lovenia Williard Pendry.  Mr. Pendry was a retired truck driver and had worked with several companies including Roadway, where he was awarded a 2 million mile Safety Award.  He was a faithful member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church where he served the church as a former Deacon and recently on the Cemetery Committee.  Mr. Pendry was also a member of the Fall Creek Fire Department, enjoyed camping, and was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather to his family of which he loved spending all the time he could with each of them.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Wall Pendry; his great-grandson, Kipton Ray Jester; his 6 sisters, Fern Pendry Hunter, Minnie Matthews, Levie Reece, Dessie Sainz, Ruby Mathis, Nell Caudle; and 5 brothers, Paul, Joe, Clint, Howard, and Ernest Pendry.  Surviving are his beloved children, Dana (Tommy) Jester, Denise (Charles “Pete”) Smitherman, Bentley (Belinda) Pendry, Rodney (Jan) Pendry; grandchildren, Nathan (Kimberly) Jester, Drew (Mandie) Jester, Ashley (Travis) Miller, Miranda (Dylan) Hines, Trevin (Katie) Pendry, McKenna Pendry, Austin (Hannah) Pendry, Jensen (Michael) Scott; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Wilma Hoots; his special canine companions “Buddy” and the late “Harley”; and numerous nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM Monday at Richmond Hill Baptist Family Life Center.  His funeral service will follow the visitation at 3 PM Monday in the Family Life Center with Rev. Luke Money, and Rev. Jerry Fugate, officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to either the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, 243 Lee Ave., Yadkinville, NC, Billy Graham Evangelical Association, 1 Billy Graham Pkwy, Charlotte, NC; or Richmond Hill Baptist Church, 2205 Richmond Hill Ch.
