Billy Reece Brandon, 92, passed away peacefully, June 19, 2026, at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Born on July 19, 1933, Billy lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a love for the outdoors.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Peril Reece Brandon and Eula Ester Brandon Hutchens; his siblings, Jessie Brandon Hutchens, Bobby Brandon, Larry Hutchens, and Eula “Shorty” Mae Hutchens.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hauser Brandon (of Yadkinville, NC); his daughter, Melissa (Damon) Long (of Hamptonville, NC); and his cherished grandson, Reece Wayne Long, who brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Marie Williams, Margaret (Santford) Brown, and Johnny (Janice) Hutchens, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends and loved canine companion Bella.
In his earlier years, Billy was one of the area’s original bootleggers, a colorful chapter of his life that reflected the resilience, determination, and independent spirit of his generation. Billy retired from Adams Lumber Company after many years of dedicated service. In retirement he found his greatest enjoyment in listening to the rabbit dogs run (harvesting a few rabbits too), reading old Westerns and working his garden, which became one of his favorite pastimes.
Billy will be remembered for determination, his quiet strength, his stories, his sheepish crooked grins and the love he had for his family. His legacy lives on through those who knew and loved him, and the memories they will treasure forever.
His graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, June 26, 2026 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville and other times the family will receive friends at the home of Melissa Long (Daughter).
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Forsyth Hospital, all the staff with Mountain Valley Hospice and everyone who has offered prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
