Yadkinville – Bobby Alvin Choplin, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 5, 2023. He was born November 2, 1944 in Forsyth County to the late Charlie Burton Choplin and Sallie Elizebeth Smitherman Choplin. Bobby retired from supervision at Americraft, formerly Sara Lee Graphics also previously worked at RJR Archer in Winston-Salem. He graduated from East Bend High School in 1963 and John Wesley Bible College at High Point in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible Theology. Bobby was a member of Union Cross Friends Church in Yadkinville; he accepted the Lord’s call to preach the Gospel of Christ. He began his pastoral ministry in 1975 at Hopewell Friends Church in Asheboro. He served at King Friends Church for many years; the Evangelical Methodist Church in East Bend; and Rock Hill Friends Church in Eagle Springs, N.C. Due to health reasons, he retired from East Bend Friends Church in 2015, after 40 years in pastoral ministry. He continued to serve in areas of ministry and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the Lord opened the doors. He was past President and Treasurer of the EB Ministerial Association and EB God and Country Committee. He also served on various committees in the NCYM, along with serving on the Board of the New Hope Pregnancy Care for several years. In 2015 he was recognized as a “Pillar of the Church” for his services while at Hopewell Friends Church during the seventies. Bobby enjoyed outings with family, sports, gardening, and traveling. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Choplin, Billy Joe Choplin; sister, Gaye Mathis; In-laws, Jack Long, Ross Williams, Sanford Mathis, Shirley Choplin, Fay and Ida Choplin. Surviving is his high school sweetheart and wife for 60 years, Helen Williams Choplin, who is the daughter of the late Sidney P. and Sallie Styers Williams. He felt blessed to have a daughter, Dana C. (Wayne) Wright of Charleston, SC and a son, Bobby Daren (Jill) Choplin of Yadkinville. “Papaw” as he was called, enjoyed his five grandchildren: Justin of Columbia, SC and Kyle of Charleston; Breanna of Charlotte; Wesley and Sidney Elizabeth Choplin of Yadkinville. Also surviving of the eleven children, there are three sisters, Doris L. Williams, Brenda (Nolan) Gibson, and Betsy H. (Jackie) Williams; two brothers, David C. Choplin, Edward D. (Teresa) Choplin; one sister-in-law, Betty Jo Choplin. His funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 8, 2023 at Union Cross Friends Church by the Rev. Jared Warden and the Rev. Nelson Puffenbarger. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 PM on Friday at Union Cross Friends Church.
