Bobby Gene Holcomb, Sr.

April 18, 1931 — February 4, 2022

Bobby Gene Holcomb Sr. passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on February 4, 2022.  Bobby was born on April 18, 1931 to Virgil Eli Holcomb, and Cora Lee Shore Holcomb of Winston-Salem, NC.  Bobby honorably served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War.  During a brief hospital stay while in service he gave his life to Jesus whom He served faithfully until his acceptance into Heaven’s gates.
Bobby received his call into ministry and preached his first sermon in February of 1953. He later attended Piedmont Bible College, and became an ordained minister at Goldfloss Baptist Church on July 31, 1958.  Bobby relocated to Wheaton, Illinois and served at Sword of the Lord in 1959.  He later retired from the City of Winston-Salem in 1988, as a roadcrew worker then retiring a second time from Budd Security in May of 1993.
He spent his life dedicated to spreading the good news of eternal salvation in Jesus Christ.  He pastored Refuge Baptist Church first in the early 1970s, and then again in the 1990s thru April of 2021.  Bobby who was forever marked by his call and dedication to Christ never retired from preaching the gospel.  At 90 years of age he continued to preach the good news to fellow residents in an assisted living facility.
Bobby was kind and attentive to all, always looking for an opportunity to share the eternal love of Jesus with those that would listen.  Bobby took great pride and joy in his family including his wife of 51 years, Janet M. Holcomb, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  His family are proud heirs to the spiritual heritage left by Bobby, and joyfully continue to share the gospel.
Bobby enjoyed watching sports, especially football in which he was very knowledgeable.  He had a close relationship with his brother William and his friend Rose Gibson, whom both showed him love and support in his final years.
Bobby was preceded in death by a twin infant brother, sister Rachel M. Allen, infant grandson Aaron C. Crafford, loving wife Janet M. Holcomb, and beloved granddaughter Crystal S. Smith.  Bobby is survived by his brother William E. Holcomb, three children, Rebekah H. Crafford, Deborah M. Smith (David), Bobby G.
