YADKINVILLE- Mr. C. Wayne Ray, 82, of Service Road passed away peacefully Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Yadkin Nursing Center. Mr. Ray was born July 16, 1941 in Surry County to the late Sam and Myrtle Myers Ray. He started working with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1960 and worked for several years while also being a member of the ToastMaster’s of Winston-Salem. Mr. Ray then worked as General Manager of Elmore’s TV and Appliances, Inc. from 1971 until his retirement in 1990, and for the past 20 years had been the owner and operator of Ray’s Golf Cars in Yadkinville. Mr. Ray was a colon cancer survivor, loved fishing, enjoyed being on his boat, and always loved to travel. He was a faithful member and enjoyed the fellowship of Maplewood Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon. Mr. Ray was also a member of Yadkin Masonic Lodge #162 A.F. & A.M. He was always active at his church and in the community, but his greatest love was his family, children, and especially his grandchildren. He would always “light up” anytime they would come to see him. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances “Fran” Ray in 2005, his brother, Larry Ray in 2003; and by his daughter-in-law, Dorothy “Dottie” V. Ray in 2021. Surviving are his sons, Johnny Ray and David Ray; his very best lady friend and companion, Elizabeth Hiatt; grandchildren, Dylan Ray and Lindsay Ray; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Seth) White, Erica (Travis) Ikner, Samantha (Micah) Gesford; step-great-grandchildren, Briley White, Willow White, Sydney Ikner; his sister, Sue Ray (David) Norman; nieces and nephews, Amber (Jerry) Koll, Amy Norman, Brian Ray, Michael (Sarah) Ray; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Maplewood Baptist Church by Rev. Eddie Honeycutt and Rev. Jimmy Lancaster. Interment will follow in Yadkin Memorial Gardens with Masonic Graveside Rites by Yadkin Masonic Lodge # 162 A.F. & A.M. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Maplewood Baptist Church Building Fund, Parkinsons Foundation, or to a charity of the Donor’s choice. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Ray family.
