Boonville – Carolyn Rebecca Freeman Woodruff, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. She was born on December 24, 1932 in Surry County to Enoch Jackson Freeman and Mary Lena Howell Freeman. Carolyn was a member of Boonville Baptist Church for many years. She graduated from Elkin High School and was her class’s Homecoming Queen in her senior year. She attended the Women’s College of Greensboro, now known as UNCG and Brevard College. During her lifetime, she enjoyed nothing more than her church family, serving God with a complete faith, and helping others in a myriad of ways, which included her work with the Yadkin Christian Ministries. She provided transportation for those less fortunate than herself, taught Sunday School, and supported various mission groups and an endless list of other activities. She was employed by Chatham Manufacturing as an executive secretary for 15 years. Until her retirement of 20 years from Boonville Elementary School, and even thereafter, she was known by thousands of children as the kind secretary.
Carolyn was preceded in death by both of her parents and her beloved husband, the late William Allen Woodruff. She was also the last surviving member of her own family, which included, Edworth Freeman, Earl Jackson Freeman, William Harold Freeman, Henry Gray “Tip” Freeman, and Samual “Sammy” Calvin Freeman (baby boy), and her cherished sisters, Mildred Lois Freeman Trainor, and Sarah Lynette Freeman (baby girl). Left behind to remember her as their loving mother are her two daughters, Jane Ann Vestal (Michael) and Lena Katherine Woodruff. Also left behind are her beloved sister-in-law, Betty Snow Woodruff, and her granddogs, Baelee and Buddy, and a host of nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. The family would like to thank some special friends: Shirley Jennings, Joyce Hincher, and Randy Hincher for their love and support during this difficult time.
A greeting of friends will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Boonville Baptist Church sanctuary followed by a Celebration of Carolyn’s Life at 1:00 pm. Rev. Ken Boaz, Rev. Mark Elmore, Rev. John Brown will be presiding. Burial will be held in the Boonville Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and thanks to the staff of Yadkin Nursing Care, Mountain Valley Hospice, and Liberty Hospice who on a daily basis provided such loving care for Carolyn.
