Cathryn Davenport Johnson

April 3, 1927 — March 15, 2023

Our precious mother, grandmother, and friend is now present in her heavenly home. Cathryn met her Savior and Lord face-to-face on Wednesday, March 15th at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was more than ready for this homecoming, having served her Lord since age 17. Cathryn served the Lord in many different ministry endeavors over the years. An active member of Forbush Baptist Church, she dearly loved serving alongside the women of the Forbush Women’s Missionary Union. During her life, she made an impact on many hearts, leading them to their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Her best ministry was the love and support she demonstrated for all of the people God placed into her life. Her fervent prayers and support have seen us all through difficult times. In this, she has set an example for us to follow: to love others as we love ourselves. Cathryn was a retired employee of Western Electric in Winston-Salem. After retirement, her work life centered around helping her family, friends, and neighbors. She was an active supporter of her family’s farming operations in Stokes and Yadkin counties. Cathryn also enjoyed selling fresh sweet corn to all of her friends on Shattalon Drive each summer. Cathryn was the daughter of the late Rev. C.W. and Mamie Davenport. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Royce, Julian, Kirk, and Charles; her sisters, Gladys Carmichael, Mary Hauser, Eris Choplin, and Janie Davenport; and a very special lifelong friend, Harriet Harper. She is survived by her twin sister, Carolyn Bovender of Wilmington, N.C. Cathryn was also preceded in death by her husbands, Oteen Wall Snyder and William Henry Johnson, and her stepson, John Johnson. Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Michael O. Snyder (Denise), Debbi S. Shields (Ray), and Cheryl S. Dinkins (Tim); grandchildren, Robert Snyder (Norma), Holly Snyder, Courtney Shields, Ashley Dinkins (Eric), Scott Dinkins (Natasha), Lindsay Dinkins, and Marissa Dinkins; great-grandchildren, Reynolds Bailey, Cate Bracken, Audrey Bracken, Talen Dinkins, Riven Dinkins; and a host of extended family and many friends who she often considered family. The family will receive friends at Forbush Baptist Church, Friday, March 17, 2023 from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM. A celebration of life will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Forbush Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Crouse and Rev. Steve Pegram officiating. The family would like to thank the staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for the loving care shown to Cathryn and her family. Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneralservice.com. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Johnson family.
