Charles Alexander Mickey, Jr., 70, passed away Thursday November 24, 2022. He was born September 28, 1952 in Forsyth County to the late Charles Alexander Mickey, Sr. and Virginia Hill Mickey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his second wife Karen Elizabeth Pulliam Mickey. Charles, known to many as “Chuck”, graduated from R.J. Reynolds H.S. in 1970. His favorite jobs included time with Yarbrough Transfer Company; 20 years with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.; and varying roles at the City of Asheville as an equipment operator in the streets and water divisions. For many years he was on-call in the wintertime, clearing the mountainous roads around Asheville and keeping them safe. He was able to obtain the job with the City of Asheville at a pivotal point in his life and it gave him a sense of purpose. He had a serious bout with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma but he was determined to beat it in order to earn his retirement from the city; he did so in 2018. Surviving are his children from his first marriage: son Charles Alexander (Jennifer) Mickey III and daughter Jennifer Lee Mickey. He also has three granddaughters: Addison Mickey, Ada Mickey, and Reagan Jewell; and a younger brother, Harry Mickey of Schenectady, NY. A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date. Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend is serving the Mickey family.
