Charles Escar Scott

February 3, 1940 — December 10, 2022

Charles E. Scott, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at his home in Yadkinville. Mr. Scott was born February 3, 1940 in Yadkin County to the late Escar and Maude Flynn Scott. Mr. Scott grew up on a farm in the Fall Creek/Friendship area, along with his three brothers, Fred, Ray and M.F. He graduated from Boonville High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Nancy Gentry. They were married August 12, 1962. Mr. Scott graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Wake Forest University in 1962, and was a devoted Deacon fan all of his life. He passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and began working as an accountant for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Charlotte, NC right after his graduation. In 1963 he was drafted by the U.S. Army, and proudly served his country as a Specialist 4th Class in Accounting at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. In 1965, Mr. and Mrs. Scott returned to Charlotte with their infant daughter, and he resumed his position with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. He completed the requirements and earned his CPA license in April 1966.  In 1975, Mr. and Mrs. Scott returned to Yadkin County, where they both grew up. Mr. Scott first worked with accountant Nolan Brown, and then partnered with Sam Dobbins, in Scott, Dobbins & Co., before starting his own firm, Charles E. Scott, CPA. Mr. Scott worked full-time, with the exception of a period where he stayed home to care for his wife Nancy, until his death. He took pride in working with clients, many of whom he considered friends, to ensure their tax returns and bookkeeping were done accurately, and to provide sound advice regarding their financial decisions. His love for accounting extended to his son Keith and daughter Karen, who also earned their CPAs and joined the firm to serve the community. Mr. Scott was a faithful member of Yadkinville First Baptist, Maplewood, and Union Grove Baptist churches. Over the years, he enjoyed spending time worshiping with friends, and served in roles such as Treasurer and Deacon. He also loved spending time with his brothers and their wives, his extended family, and with his children, their spouses and his grandchildren, whom he cherished.  Mr. Scott was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Nancy G. Scott, as well as his parents and brothers. He is survived by his children, Catherine (Thom) Scott-Little, Karen (Eric) Morrison, and Keith Scott; and the grandchildren he delighted in, Virginia & Rebecca Little and Alex & Katena Morrison. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday December 12, 2022 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday December 13, 2022 at Union Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Kenny Gooden and Rev. Eric Morrison. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Union Grove Baptist Church, 2401 Nebo Road Yadkinville, NC 27055.  Gentry Family Funeral service in Yadkinville is serving the Scott family.
