Dr. Cleve Hollar, 87, and Mrs. Glenda Hollar, 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
Cleve was born in Yadkin County on March 23, 1939 to Arthur and Jecoliah Hollar. He graduated from Appalachian State University and went on to get his doctorate from UNC Greensboro. Cleve was the principal of J.P. Knapp Junior High School from 1976 to 1979, Currituck County High School from 1979 to 1983, and Starmount High School from 1983 to 1984. He then went on to become the superintendent of Yadkin County Schools from 1984 to 1996. During his retirement years, Cleve became a gentleman farmer and enjoyed learning about local history and family history. He loved history so much so, that he wrote two books about family history and the sports history of Yadkin County.
Glenda was born in Forsyth County on August 3, 1940 to Sherman and Jessie Pruitt. She ran her own hair salon for a number of years. Glenda was an avid reader. She loved the royal history of England. In 1998, she traveled to London with her sister, Barbara, and nephew, Greg, to visit many of the historical sites. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her brothers and sister as often as she could. For most of her life, her greatest joy was being a homemaker. She took great care of her family, always doting on her children and grandchildren. Glenda was a loving mother and mother-in-law. She was a friend to so many, never judgmental, and always welcoming to all.
Cleve and Glenda were married for 66 years. They spent lots of their retirement years gardening, even becoming certified master gardeners. They were well loved and will be deeply missed.
They are survived by two sons, Blake (Katy) Hollar, and Sherman (Patricia) Hollar; and grandchildren, Bridgette Hollar, Andrew (Anna) Hollar, and Kaitlyn Hollar. Cleve is survived by a sister, Carolyn (Willie) Rea. Glenda is survived by a sister, Barbara Knouse and a brother, Billy Pruitt. In addition to their parents, they were preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Hollar.
A visitation will be held for Cleve and Glenda from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In memory of Cleve and Glenda, memorials may be made in their honor and memory to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Hollar family.
