Mrs. Clyde Lilly Mae Crouse Butcher 94, of Belews Creek, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024. She was born July 6, 1930 in Surry County to the late James and Mandy Crouse. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Butcher, her brothers, Claude, Buster, Glenn, Tom, Kester and James, her sisters, Nannie, Rose, Ethel, Opal, Ruby, Cindy and Ruth, and her grandson, Brandon Hamby. She is survived by her children, Bobby (Debbie) Butcher of Arlington, TX, Johnny Butcher of King, NC, Donald (Dianna) Butcher of Ravenden Springs, AR, Sandra “Sami” Butcher Harris of Belews Creek, NC, Richard Butcher of Greensboro, NC and Lagina “Gina” Butcher (Jason) Bullard of Summerfield, NC, her grandchildren, Starr (Felix) O’Hal, Ralph (Beth) Butcher, Alex Bullard, Brandie (Tim) Maher, Melissa (Michael) Craig, and Dustin (Jamie) Butcher, her great-granchildren, Tyler O’Hal, Ryan O’Hal, Erin O’Hal, Megan O’Hal, Emma O’Hal and Jake Rogers. Mrs. Butcher was the owner/operator of Curley’s Place Restaurant, she was famous for the biscuits she made at Speedy Chef (when they were gone, they were gone!), and cooked for Foothills Grocery in Thurmond, NC. She was an active volunteer and caregiver with the New River Area Senior Companion Program, was awarded a certificate from the Appalachian Senior Program and received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award. She was a member of Sparta Church of God, she enjoyed cooking, needlepoint, canning and crocheting. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm Tuesday September 3, 2024 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. Her funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm following the visitation in the Gentry Family Chapel. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens, State Road, NC. The family will gather at Speedy Chef in Elkin (Mama’s favorite spot) around 5pm, to visit with friends. Pallbearers will be Tyler O'Hal, Ryan O’Hal, Trent Regan, Jake Rogers, Ralph Butcher, Alex Bullard, Kaleb Butcher, and Trey Childress. The family extends special thanks to mom’s caregiver and friend; Tonya Holtman and her favorite niece, Debra Matheson. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville is serving the Butcher family.
