LEWISVILLE – Mrs. Deanna Stuart Cockerham, 87, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center. Born April 8, 1938, and a native of Elkin, she was the daughter of the late Claude Clyde Stuart and Gladys Lee Lawrence Stuart. Affectionately known as “Dee” to family and friends, she lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength.
Dee retired from Piedmont Aviation and was a faithful member of Lewisville Baptist Church for as long as her health permitted. Her faith was an important part of her life, guiding her in her love and service to others.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She found great joy in time spent with her grandchildren, especially on trips to the mountains and the beach—moments that became treasured memories for all. Known for her generous spirit, Dee was always ready to lend a helping hand and give of herself to those in need.
Dee had many interests outside of her family. She was an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)-Jonathan Hunt Chapter.
She so enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of her time landscaping and cultivating a successful garden with her husband each year. She owned a craft business, ‘DeeMac’, with her husband; she was a member of the ‘Red Hat Society’; she attended tap classes at the local community center; she was an avid quilter and loved working on long quilting projects with her mother and the quilting club at her church.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mackie Lincoln Cockerham, and her sister, Carol Burgess. She is survived by her loving daughter, Debbie (Alan) Burcham; her cherished grandchildren, Gabriel Alan “Gabe” (Melissa); Graham Lee “Gray”; Emily Lauren; Michaela Deborah “Micki” (Morgan) and Caspian, first great grandson; her devoted brother Jay Clyde Stuart; precious nieces and nephews; all will remember her fondly.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Friday at Lewisville Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Phillip Barnes. Family will lay her to rest at Elkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Cockerham family. Online condolences may be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com
