Debra Kaye Bumgarner Vanhoy, 62, entered the presence of her Savior on Monday, April 6, 2026, after a fierce 365-day battle with pancreatic cancer. She entered eternity peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 3,1963 in Wilkes County to Charlie Junior Bumgarner and Doris Lorene Mastin Bumgarner. Debbie graduated from Catawba Valley Community College with an associate degree in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) Technology. Throughout her professional career she worked for Lowe’s Company, Wilkes Community College and Page Interworks. Though she accomplished much in her career, her greatest and most meaningful work was at home, caring for her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Mark Alan Vanhoy: children Kendra (James) North, and Luke (Brittany) Vanhoy. She also leaves behind her three grandchildren, who were among her greatest joys: Bellamy Brannon, Atlas North, and Athren Vanhoy.
Debbie lived a life rooted in faith, guided by grace, and filled with love for others. She walked closely with Jesus, trusting His plan in both joy and hardship, and exemplifying a servant’s heart. She has now been called home, where there is no more pain, suffering or tears – only eternal peace in the presence of her Lord. We know with great confidence that she is face to face with the One she placed her faith in and was welcomed into heaven with the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Services will be held at Union Baptist Church in Hamptonville, where Debbie and Mark served faithfully. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. The graveside service will follow at the church cemetery. Reverends Kenny Pardue and Dennis Bell will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Union Baptist Church building fund, Moody Bible Institute, The Gideons International, Lifeline Pregnancy Center, New Hope Pregnancy Center, Joni and Friends, or Mountain Valley Hospice.
The family would like to personally thank the congregation of Union Baptist Church, Mountain Valley Hospice, and the staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.
Her last wishes wanted her funeral to be celebratory, so color outfits are encouraged.
Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Vanhoy family.
“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
