Doris "Gaynell" Johnston Poindexter

Mrs. Doris “Gaynell” Johnston Poindexter, 91, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 6, 2024. She was born in Yadkin County on June 20, 1933 to George M. Johnston and Allie Lee Reece Johnston. Gaynell was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for all of her life. She loved The Lord dearly. Gaynell enjoyed working with flowers, baking cakes, and was famous for her homemade sweet pickles and relish. She always had a sweet, quiet demeanor, but when she was together with her friends and family, she enjoyed non-stop conversation and laughter. Gaynell will be so missed by everyone who had the privilege to know her and love her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd R. Poindexter; and numerous brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Nick R. Poindexter, Cassandra (Marty) C. Greene, Jerrie M. Poindexter, and Danny (Susie) Poindexter; grandchildren, Kenneth W. Stroud, Brad R. Stroud, Matthews Coins, and Adam Coins; several great-grandchildren; sister, Sadie Bryant; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends and caregivers.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend. A funeral service will follow in the Gentry Family Chapel with Pastor Brian Poindexter officiating. A private graveside service will be held at a later time at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fall Creek Community Emergency Medical Services, P.O. Box 998, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who helped Gaynell and was there for her during the last few years.
