Dorothy Cruthirds Todd

Mrs. Dorothy Cruthirds Todd was born March 26, 1925, in Gulfport, Mississippi to Douglas and Willie King Cruthirds. She passed away Friday, December 13, 2024 at Hugh Chatham Hospital. Dorothy graduated from Orange Grove High School where she played basketball. She met David Woodrow Todd in 1941 at Kessler Air Force Base. They were married on February 27, 1942. Dorothy moved to Yadkinville with David and lived there until she moved to Chatham Nursing Home. She helped David run Todd’s Superette for many years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, William Cruthirds, Herbert Russell Cruthirds, and her sister, Louise Compareto. She was also predeceased by four children, David Woodrow Todd Jr., Diane Sparks, Donald Gray Todd, and Donna Doby. She is survived by her son Doug Todd and wife Darlene of Yadkinville; daughter-in-law, Paula Todd of Yadkinville; son-in-law, Randy Doby of Mocksville. Dorothy is also survived by her grandchildren, Terry Todd (Jennifer), Jeff Todd, Ginny Todd, Douglas Todd (Tamara), David Todd (Danielle), Emily Corbalan (Leo), Zach Todd, and Claudia Todd. She also has several great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. She was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. Dorothy loved all sports, especially her Carolina Tarheels basketball, New York Yankees baseball, and the New York Jets football. She would always enjoy a good conversation about the Tarheels even in their off season. Dorothy loved cooking for her family, and she enjoyed being outside and especially relaxing times sitting on her front porch, where she took many naps in the warm sunshine. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Gentry Family Funeral Home. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Chris Hauser officiating. Burial will following the Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank the ICU staff of Hugh Chatham Hospital for the loving care given to Dorothy. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Todd family.
