Elder Harold Lee Hymes, affectionately known as “Elder” by his church family and loved ones, was born on October 30, 1951, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Mrs. Lillie Mae Hymes-Jones and Mr. Harold Penn.
Elder Hymes was a proud graduate of Atkins High School, where he participated in the marching band and bowling league. He later attended Forsyth Technical Community College. He was a dedicated and faithful employee of Flow Motors Cadillac for 35 years, where he exemplified commitment, integrity, and a strong work ethic.
A man of deep faith, Elder Hymes was a devoted member and minister at Greater Emmanuel Word of Faith Christian Community, Inc. He was known for his humility, his love for the Lord, and his unwavering dedication to God’s Word. Elder Hymes lived a life marked by integrity, character, and service, always willing to lend a helping hand and be there for others.
Elder Hymes was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Chime and Gladys Hymes.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Hymes for 24 years, with whom he shared many years of love and companionship.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his mother, Lillie Mae Hymes-Jones; his children, Harold Lee Hymes, Jr. (Coby Hymes), Tawanda Hymes, Chris Lindsay, and Jonathan Lindsay; his grandchildren, Cassady Hymes, Joshua Hymes, Chase Young, Allen Anthony, Jr., Jayden Anthony, Lucas Anthony, and Sophie Rose Anthony; and his siblings, Wanda Jones, Deborah Jones, Chime Jones, Theola Jones, and RJ Jones. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Friday, April 3, 2026 at Greater Emmanuel Word of Faith Christian Community, Inc. A service to celebrate the life of Elder Hymes will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Walkertown.
Elder Hymes often found comfort and guidance in one of his favorite scriptures:
2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Elder Harold Lee Hymes will be remembered as a humble, dedicated servant of God, a man of integrity and character, and a loving presence in the lives of many.
He will be truly missed.
