Mrs. Ellen “Lorene” Roberts Byrd, age 82, went home to be with the Lord, on December 13, 2021. Lorene was born in Alleghany County on January 23, 1939 to the late Preston Glenn and Bertie Ruth Andrews Roberts.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gwyn Byrd.

Lorene was a wonderful cook, an avid collector along with her sister, and was the official family photographer. All her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews have fond memories of special dishes Aunt Lorene always fixed: home-made fruit cakes, cherry yum-yum, tater wedges, peanut butter cookies, salmon patties, and so much more. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Vonda (Haroon) Agha, Richard (Tammie) Byrd; grandchildren, Jordan Agha, Nicholas Byrd; step-grandchildren, Kimberli Jennings, Michael Jennings; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Mabe, Glenna (Bob) Mabe, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family. 

A private graveside service will be officiated by Rev.
