Elsie Bunton Chappell Souther

Mrs. Elsie Bunton Chappell Souther, 90, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024. She was born in Yadkin County on February 9, 1934 to John Manley Bunton and Verlie Wallace Bunton. Mrs. Souther was a member of Hunting Creek Friends Church. She enjoyed reading and doing puzzles. Mrs. Souther loved to cook for a crowd, she especially loved to make persimmon pudding and pecan pie. She will be deeply missed by all who had the special privilege to know her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Milton Chappell and Wake Souther; son, David Milton Chappell; daughter, Helen (Larry) Annette Martin; sisters, Pansey B. Woods and Nora “Reba” B. Russell; brothers, James Robert Bunton and Johnny Harold Bunton; and son-in-law, Barry Honeycutt. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra C. Honeycutt of Hamptonville; grandchildren, Tonya Martin, Selena Andrews, and Jason (Misty) Honeycutt; nine great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and daughters-in-law, Vickie Chappell and Jan Simmons Foster.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Hunting Creek Friends Church with Pastor Dennis Shaw officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Souther will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to New Horizons Home Care, 648 Carolina Avenue, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express a special thank you to the caregivers from New Horizons Home Care for the loving and compassionate care given to Mrs. Souther.
