Emily Ruth Hennings Wooten

Mrs. Emily Ruth Hennings Wooten, 98, of East Bend, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. She was born in Yadkin County on December 13, 1926, to the late G. L. (Lat) and Lesta Hennings. Mrs. Wooten was a faithful member of Stony Knoll United Methodist Church, serving as church Secretary and participating in many Bible studies, and a charter member of the Stony Knoll United Methodist Women, serving for many years as Treasurer. She was valedictorian of her senior class at East Bend High School, graduated from Draughon’s Business College and retired from Pilot Freight Carriers and Carolina Public Warehouse. Mrs. Wooten served for many years as a Yadkin County election official, on the East Bend Library Local Advisory Board and on the East Bend Senior Center Advisory Committee. She was well known in her community for her beautiful crocheted doilies, many of which she generously donated to the Stony Knoll UMW annual bazaar or gave as gifts. Her family loved to gather at her home for holidays and particularly loved her green beans!

She was a devoted wife, homemaker, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Glendon E. Wooten; and two brothers, Paul and Grady Hennings. Surviving are her five children, Emily (John) Duncan of Shallotte; Anne Teeling of Charlotte; Mark (Joan) Wooten of Salisbury; Sarah (Marty) Price of Concord; and Glenda Wooten of Pineville; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Lori) Duncan, Dan (Julie) Duncan, Carrie (Dave) Walton, Jenna (Jermey) Brown, Tyler (Carly) Wooten, Elizabeth (David) Newberry and Matthew (Annie) Price; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Alvis (Jane) Hennings and Joe (Annette) Hennings, sister, Ruby Murphy; brothers-in-law, Leon (Margaret) Wooten and Samuel (Patricia) Wooten; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Stony Knoll United Methodist Church, 2340 Flint Hill Road, East Bend, NC 27018, with the Rev. Arnold Gosnell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend, 428 E. Main Street, East Bend, NC 27018. Memorials may be made to Stony Knoll United Methodist Church, c/o Brenda Doub, 2129 Flint Hill Road, East Bend, NC 27018.
