Ethylene “Nana” Brown Watson, of Jonesville, NC, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on April 28, 2026, with her daughter by her side. She was born on July 6, 1944, to the late Sam and Ima Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Watson; her brother, Gilbert Brown; and her son, Bobby Runyan. Ethylene was a faithful member of Marler Road Baptist Church in Hamptonville, NC, as long as her health permitted. In her later years, though unable to attend regularly, her faith remained a steady and meaningful part of her life. She spent many years working in manufacturing and retail, including 25 years with Hanes Hosiery, and also with Advanced Electronics, GNC, and Foothills Meat Center.
Ethylene had a special gift for making a house feel like home. She enjoyed decorating and creating a warm, welcoming space for those she loved. She especially cherished time spent with her great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her infectious laugh that could brighten any room. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Kent) VanHoy; grandson, Zach (Addi) Greene; daughter-in-law, Lisa Runyan; grandson, Chaston Runyan; and great-grandchildren, Payton Greene and Mason Greene. She is also survived by step-granddaughter, Brooke VanHoy; and step-great-grandchildren, Ryan Moxley, Paige Moxley, and Hayden Moxley.
She is also lovingly remembered by special friends, Tu and Tina Le, and their children, An, Jacob, and Samuel Le, who also knew her as “Nana.” The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to PruittHealth of Elkin for their compassionate care, as well as to Allison Spagnoletti for her kindness, guidance, and support over the years. They also wish to thank special friends Gina Barker, Martha Edwards, Donna Hutchens, and Emily Conley for their love and support. A service will be held at Marler Road Baptist Church in Hamptonville, NC, on Sunday, May 3, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marler Road Missionary Fund, 4433 Collins Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
