Eugene Elmer Sutton, Sr.

Eugene Elmer Sutton, Sr., 80, of Hamptonville, NC, passed away at the hospital following a long battle with cardiovascular disease on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 8:25 a.m.

Gene was born on February 4, 1946, in Jarvisburg, NC, to St. Clair Sutton Sr. and Hilma India Montaque Sutton Baum. He grew up in Jarvisburg and remained deeply connected to his family and the people who were part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, St. Clair Sutton Sr. and Hilma India Montaque Sutton Baum; his brother, St. Clair Sutton; and sister-in-law, Faye Sutton Macumber; and niece Sallie Marie Sutton Stone.

Gene is survived by his sons, Eugene Sutton Jr. Tom Sutton and daughter-in-law, Brandi Sutton; Michael Alexander Sutton Jay, his grandchildren, Kylie Sutton and Cole Sutton; his brother, Elmo Sutton; sister-in-law, Linda Sutton; nephew, Chris Sutton; best friend (like a brother) Joey DeCicco; niece, Theresa Sutton Lawrence; and nieces Tammy Lewis and Denise Reiner (Dave).

Gene was a loving grandfather, father, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the opportunity to know him and share time with him.
