Frank Lee Smith
"Big Daddy"
BOONVILLE - We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Frank Lee Smith, 65, of Boonville, NC on August 4, 2025 surrounded by his family. We will forever cherish our memories of him. Frank was born May 20th, 1960 in Yadkin County to the late Harvey and Roselyn B. Smith. He graduated from Starmount High School in 1978 and attended Catawba College.
Frank enjoyed making things beautiful; and he had an amazing work ethic. He dedicated 20 years to Old Beau Golf Course as a Golf Course Superintendent in Sparta, NC. He worked from breaking ground to the completion of the beautiful mountain course. This was a very proud accomplishment for him.
He also spent 10 years at Silo Run Golf Course as General Manager. He was well-known as “Chef Frank”, because he could make the best BBQ around. Everyone enjoyed his sandwiches and he loved making them for people to enjoy.
Frank was a passionate man who enjoyed the outdoors. He built a beautiful log home on the family farm, equipped with a horse barn and stalls. He loved riding horses and would share a favorite story of riding horses with friends in the moonlight. As the story is recalled, Graham Reece was head of the crew, and Frank was usually in the back; being Frank Lee. They all counted off their numbers to ensure no one got lost. He loved this precious memory. Frank lived life to the fullest and touched many lives, along the way. He always lived life on his own terms, “The Frank Lee Way”! He will be remembered for his humor and Big Heart. As a child, his best time was riding on Wagon Trains with his Uncle Walter.
Frank was a member of Boonville Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, aunts & uncles. Surviving are his loving wife of the home, Sandra Martin Smith; children, Tess Smith, Danielle Smith, Sara (Corey) Church; step-daughter, Jill (Michael) Collins; niece, Dorsey Smith; brother, Danny (Lisa) Smith; brother-in-law, Tony (Pattie) Martin; four grandchildren, Elaina, Emmett, Cali and Hadley; many special friends, Andy Pardue, Jay Bryant, Kenny Crissman, Tim Collins, Keith Hutchens, and Mike Benton.
From the mountains to the seas, "Big Daddy" Frank and soul mate Sandra Smith have made many wonderful memories to cherish for a life time. We love you FLS, always and forever.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to Tabitha Cousart, Dr. Patrick Campbell, Palliative Care at Forsyth Medical Center, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all their loving care and support.
