George "Billy" William Hege

Mr. George “Billy” William Hege, 91, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was born December 27, 1932 in Forsyth County to the late Wiley Ellis Hege, Sr. and Nora Blakley Hege. He graduated from James A. Gray High School in June 1951. George served in the United States Navy from November 1951 to November 1959. He served on the USS Antietam CBS-32 while on active duty. After the Navy, he returned to Winston-Salem and settled into a position with Sears Automotive from where he eventually retired. After his retirement, he worked at Baptist Hospital for 15 years in admissions and volunteers. George was a faithful member of Clemmons Moravian Church. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Parents Without Partners where he was introduced to his wife, Kathryn. George enjoyed participating in the activities at the Yadkinville Senior Center. He was quite the jokester, a big flirt, and loved to dance. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and loved them more than anything. George will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege to know him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Williams Hege; step mother, Beatrice Hege; siblings, Edith Lehman, Wiley Hege, Jr., and Richard (Toni) Hege; and nephews, Terry and David Lehman. He is survived by his children, Gary Hege (Cathy Johnson), Steven Hege (Lauren Nelson), Timothy (Michelle) Hege, and Kenneth (Michelle) Hege; step children, Dale (Tammy) Ring, Karen Ring (Becky Reavis), and Darrell Ring (Jennifer Cheong); grandchildren, Corey Hege, Kameron Hege, and Thomas Hege; step grandchildren, Daniel Lawson, Sarah Lawson, Jackson Ring, Jordan Ring, Garrett Ring, Conner Ring, Sarah Roumillat, and Lucas Cheong; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edith Hege; and niece, Vicki Hege.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Clemmons Moravian Church, located at 3535 Spangenberg Avenue, Clemmons, NC 27012 with the Rev. Ray Burke and Rev. Christopher Thore officiating. Interment will follow at Yadkinville Cemetery at Cemetery Circle, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s 8th Floor Surgical ICU for the loving and compassionate care given to Mr. Hege and his family. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Hege family.
