Gilbert Wayne Hemric, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Duke University Medical Center.
Born on January 10, 1947 in Yadkin County, Gilbert was the son of the late Henry Jackson Hemric and Ethel Calloway Hemric. On June 15, 1968, he married Caroline Bunton Hemric. They were blessed with two children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, all of whom knew him as "Pa."
A lifelong farmer, Gilbert received numerous awards recognizing his dedication to agriculture. He had a deep love for the land and an unwavering commitment to his community. From 2010 to 2022, he proudly served the citizens of Yadkin County as a County Commissioner, while also contributing his time and leadership to numerous boards and committees dedicated to making his community a better place. Beyond his public service, Gilbert treasured time spent with family and friends, sharing laughter and enjoying live music.
In addition to his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Hemric; his sister, Lorene Settle; and his brother, Donald Hemric.
He is survived by his son, Van (Jennifer) Hemric; his daughter, Amber Hemric; his grandchildren, Ashton (Taylor) Davis, Colton (Anna) Hemric, and Mallorie (Daniel) Ferguson; his great-grandchildren, Nora and Abram Davis; his sister, Vonda Blackburn; his sisters-in-law, Kathy Hemric and Nancy (Ray) Zwack; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville.
A public graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Hemric Family Cemetery on Hemric Mountain, located at 5043 Highland Grove Place, Hamptonville.
Those attending the graveside service are asked to arrive at the cemetery between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. to allow time for parking and shuttle transportation to the graveside. Guests are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Yadkin County Agriculture Foundation, Inc., PO Box 456, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
