Grady "Steve" McCollum

August 7, 1951 — June 21, 2025

Yadkinville

2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Grady Steve McCollum, 73, finished his course here on Earth on June 21, 2025. To know Steve was to know joy, kindness, and unwavering faith. He never met a stranger, had a laugh that filled the room, and a heart that shone with the light of Christ. He lived each day with purpose, striving to reflect Jesus in every interaction. His life created a ripple effect that continues to touch all who came in contact with him. A devoted elder of the Church of Christ and a beloved preacher, he poured his soul into ministry, his family, his church family, and his greatest joy—his grandchildren. If you were ever looking for Steve and his loving wife Kathy, chances are you’d find them cheering on their grandkids at every event possible. He was a proud Paw, a loving husband, and a faithful father. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grady Richard McCollum and Mary Ann Trivette Cook; grandmother, Sarah Trivette; his sister, Pam McCollum; and nephews Ricky Caudle and Richard Chandler. He is survived by the love of his life for 54 years, wife Kathy Speer McCollum; daughters Amy McCollum Taylor (Jacob Taylor) and Katie McCollum Pruitt (James Pruitt); and his four crowns (Proverbs 17:6): Levi Richard Taylor (18), Lathan James Pruitt (16), Case Jeremiah Taylor (14), and Cana Renee Pruitt (11). He is also survived by his sister Linda Caudle (Allen) and brother Mike (Anita) McCollum; his aunt Carolyn Marlow; and special friends Steve Johnson, Johnny Boles, Peggy Boles, Bill Pruitt, and Barbara Ann Chandler. Surviving nieces and nephews include: Tim Caudle, Terry Caudle, Richie McCollum, Candy McCollum-Hill, Bobby Church, Penny Church, Tracey Scott, Tyann Hubbard, and Teresa Willard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, June 23, 2025 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by Brother Jody Mitchell and Brother Clay Wingler. Burial will follow at Silo Church of Christ by Brother Steve Johnson. The family extends heartfelt thanks to his amazing oncologist Dr. Caio Rocho-Lima, who walked this path with him; Dr. Perry Shen; Laura Cloud; Mountain Valley Hospice; the 9C Oncology ICU at Baptist Hospital; his exceptional respiratory team; and a beautiful voice in a dark time— Anna. To our family, friends, and church family — Thank you for your unwavering love, support, and prayers throughout this five-year+ journey. Your faith, kindness, and constant encouragement gave us strength and surrounded our Paw with light during every step of his battle. Because of your prayers and God’s grace, we were blessed with more precious time, more memories, and more love with our Paw. We love you all so much. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Silo Church of Christ, 1728 Baltimore Road, East Bend, NC 27018 and/or bring food items to Gentry Family Funeral Service to be donated to Yadkin Christian Ministries. Dad was always saying if you did something good “You get a box of Cheerios”. His final act is to bless those in his community. We are planning a “White Out”, his favorite color was white and we are asking everyone to wear white and/or a hat to the funeral. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the McCollum family. Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.

Pallbearers: Tim Caudle, Terry Caudle, Josh Johnson, Zach Johnson, Toby Wingler, Bodie Wingler, Andy Caudle, and Richie McCollum.
