Harold Douglas Groce

Harold Douglas Groce, 72, of Hamptonville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026, at Baptist Hospital of Winston-Salem. He was born on May 16th, 1953, to the late Harold and Edith Groce. Doug retired from Duke Energy as a lineman after having served 41 years. He was a great hunter and enjoyed many hunting trips with his friends. Doug was also a talented marksman and loved travelling for competition shooting. He loved his family and friends and would spend time with them whenever he could. Doug loved life and showed his faith by helping others. He was loved deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him and he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Larry Sherman Renegar; and sister-in-law, Jean Murphy Rose. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Wanda “Cookie” Groce; sister, Vonda Renegar; nieces, Susan (David) Wendell, Lorie Rose; nephews, Scott (Laura) Renegar, Daniel (Fiancé Kayla Mansfield) Rose, Thomas Rose; great-nieces, Mary Louise Renegar, Olivia Renegar, Kate Wendell; great-nephews, Ben Wendell, Carter Grant Rose; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Anderson, Nell (Roy) Douglas; and brothers-in-law, Tommy Rose, Donnie (Kim) Rose.

A funeral service will be held for Doug on Monday, April 6th, 2026, at 3:30 P.M at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The burial will take place following the service at Harmony Grove Friends Church in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to an organization of the donors’ choice. The staff of Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville will be serving the Groce family.
