Herman Burcham

Boonville Mr. L. Herman Burcham, 101, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at his home. Herman was born November 5, 1921 in Surry County to Clay and Jettie Burcham. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during WWII. Herman was a 1940 graduate of Elkin High School and a 1948 graduate of Appalachian State University. He retired after 35 years of service with Chatham Manufacturing and was a Gideon for many years. Herman served on the Board of Directors for Yadkin Valley Bank. He was a member of Swaims Baptist Church for over 70 years, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, a deacon and treasurer. Herman enjoyed golfing and traveling with his wife Ruth. They enjoyed their Sunday drives until they turned 100. In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by a niece, a brother, two sisters, and special family, Jeff Rose. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Ruth Kimmer Burcham; and special family, Frank (Penny) Rose, Tim (Sue) Rose, and their children. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Swaims Baptist Church with Pastor Gordon Macemore officiating. Full military honors will be provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the US Navy Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Swaims Baptist Church, 3919 Swaims Church Road Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers, Debbie, Angelica, Beverly, Susan, Kristy, Cammy, Macy, Rita, and Verina for the loving care given to Herman and Ruth. Also, a special thank you to Mtn. Valley Hospice, Debbie and nursing staff. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Burcham family.
