Homer J. Creed

Homer J. Creed, age 86, passed away Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Estel and Mattie Creed on the 17th of October, 1938 in Surry County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Shelvie Creed; sisters, Clyde Dryden of Galax, Juanita Snow of Mt. Airy, and Betty Galyean of Low Gap; brothers, Infant Paul Creed and Curtis Creed; and son-in-law, Tony Hayes.

He is survived by one son, Bobby J. Lynch (Rosie); two daughters, Rebecca Hayes and Pattie Fields; grandchildren, Jody Lynch (Tracia), Melissa Hill (Aaron), Landon Lynch (Angie), Shawn Kelly (Jessica), Thomas Hayes (Jenna), and Tiffany Autwell (Matt); great-grandchildren, Kaylen Fields, Brevan McAlpin, Layla Hale, Kayden Taylor, Olivia Lynch, Isaiah Hill (special friend, Madison Ketchie), Kinley Horrocks, Elijah Hill, Aiden Autwell, Noah Kidd, and Owen Lynch; great-great-grandchildren, Tanner and Asher; and several other special nieces and nephews.

Homer retired after many years as a guard for the Department of Corrections, as well as served on the board of directors for Yadtel. He and his wife both had a happy retirement together after they retired just three months apart. They took time to go and visit all 50 states of the country. Homer was a long-time member of Union Grove Baptist Church and served as a deacon there. He loved gardening, spending time outside, and being a part of the Lions Club. Above all that, he was an inspiration to his family and a wonderful role model. “Be Honest” was a saying he had and he lived by it.

The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to the caring staff at Forsyth Medical Centers ICU, as well as Mt. Valley Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SECU Hospice Home, 243 N Lee Ave, Yadkinville, NC 27055 and/or to the South Oak Ridge Baptist Church Youth Ministries, 1336 Lone Hickory Rd, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A funeral service will be held in the Gentry Family Chapel following the visitation. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Creed family.
