James Lewis Hicks Sr.

Mr. James Lewis Hicks, Sr., 66, passed away September 30, 2022. He was born June 6, 1956 in Roanoke, VA to the late Charlie Wilton Hicks and Ella Jean Dixon Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Albert Leroy Hicks; grandchild, Charlie Austin Hicks; sisters, Mary Spencer, Loretta Edwards; brothers, Albert Hicks, Kelly Hicks, Richard Hicks; aunt, Joyce Yopp; mother-in-law, Blanche Moss; father-in-law, Ernest Payne. James enjoyed watching any type of sports, especially football, baseball, and basketball, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his younger years, he and his father ran a sawmill. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Martha Sue Hicks; children, Misty Dawn Hicks, James Lewis (Samantha) Hicks Jr.; grandchildren, James Preston Hicks, Kole Douglas Carter, Mitchell Austin Carpenter, Gabriel Dean Carpenter, Joseph Brady Hicks, Madison Jade Hicks, Mason Clyde Hicks, Kinley Shae Hicks; brother, Charles Hicks; sisters, Ruth Ann (Doug) Anderson, Linda (Tim) Snavely; very special friend Zac Laman, and Don Bell and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the family home, 558 Summer Ridge Road, Cana, VA 24317, with Pastor Randy Parish officiating.
