The doors of Heaven opened on Saturday, May 30, 2026, and received James Steven Windsor. A joyful reunion it was, as Jimmy was met not only by God, but also by his mother, Nellie, and his brother, Scott L. Harris. Jimmy passed away peacefully in the Intensive Care Unit at Baptist Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. He went home, where pain and suffering will be no more.
Jimmy was born in Iredell County on February 17, 1961, to the late Nellie Harris and Luther L. Windsor. Jimmy was a very smart child growing up who never met a stranger. He had many friends and was loved by all. He loved watching sports on TV, but most of all, he loved Corvettes! And boy, could he drive fast! After graduating from high school, Jimmy joined the Army. He excelled in his military career and, with encouragement from his sister Debra, became an 82nd Airborne paratrooper at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Some of his assignments included Seoul, South Korea; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; the Sinai Desert, Egypt; Grenada; Vicenza, Italy; Fort Bragg once again; and New York. Jimmy retired honorably after serving 20 years in the Army as an E-7 (SFC), Sergeant First Class. With his military career behind him, Jimmy returned to his hometown to settle down. Never one to be idle, he decided to return to work and began working with Freightliner, where he eventually retired once more.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Harris; and his stepfather, Tony Harris. Survivors include his two sons, Steven and Shawn; his sister, Debra Rivera; his brother, Rock Harris; his wife, Debbie Windsor of Hamptonville; and his step-granddaughter, Danielle, whom he dearly loved. He is also survived by his nephews, Carlos Rivera of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Austin and Isaac Harris of Yadkinville; his niece, Jasmin Rivera Kivett of Roaring River, North Carolina; and his faithful K-9 companion, Bullet.
Per Jimmy's request, no public viewing or visitation will be held. Reverend Jerry Ireland will officiate a graveside service with full military honors on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 2:00 P.M at Maranatha Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Jimmy's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project and/or Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The staff of Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville will be serving the Windsor family.
"Jimmy will be forever missed, never forgotten, and loved forever and a day."
As the paratroopers would say, "Hooah!"
