Jean Messick Marler

EAST BEND - Jean Messick Marler, 90, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born on August 26, 1934 to the late Glenn and Willie Mae Hendrix Messick. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco company in 1987 after 35 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Marler, sisters Phoebe Smith and Patsy Phillips, and her brother, Donnie Messick. She is survived by her children Kathy (Dwain) Jones, Eddie (Patty King) Marler, and Rita (Darrell) Caudle; grandchildren, Kelli (Brandon Doub) Myers, Stephanie (JD) Draker, Colton (Lauren) Jones; great-grandchildren, Nick Myers, Mazie Jones, Jack Draker; sister, JoAnn Day; and brothers, Dickie (Fran) Messick and Gerald “Bo” (Debbie) Messick. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home, but friends may come by to express their condolences during the day on Wednesday and Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service of East Bend. Her graveside service will be 2:00 PM Friday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Eddie Tyson.
