Jimmy Gray "Crow" Johnson

Mr. Jimmy Gray “Crow” Johnson, age 85, died on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Forsyth Hospital. He was born August 2, 1941 to Robert Gray Johnson and Nora Taylor Johnson. He lived in the Union Hill community of East Bend all of his life. He farmed for many years, worked for the East Bend Farm and Garden store for eleven years, and retired from Unifi with twenty-one years of service. He loved attending Sunday School at Union Hill UM Church and growing up he received perfect attendance for 15 years. He loved people and his favorite thing he did at church was open the door and welcome people. Upon retirement he loved gathering with friends at Danny’s Garage and what was affectionately known as “The Roost” in East Bend. He was kind and easy going and always had a humorous story to share from the past. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Jayne and Gerald Zachary; his son, Robert Mark Johnson; brother-in-law, Jesse Charles Willard. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy W. Johnson; a niece and her husband, Shannon Z. and Keith Adams; a great niece Ava Beth Adams; and sister-in-law, Sherri W. Bunton. Jim had a lifelong love of fishing in the Yadkin River and in his pond. As a young man he enjoyed fishing with his neighbor Clifton Beane who was like a father to him. Jim loved singing the old gospel songs of the church and for over 50 years folks from the Union Hill community and the Shoals community gathered on 5th Sunday evenings for food, fellowship, and lots of good singing. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, September 2, 2026 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM, in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Stuart Jones, Rev. Laura Lee Jones, and Rev. Gary Mahathey officiating. Burial will follow in the Allen Johnson Cemetery. The family would like to express gratitude to the excellent medical staff of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and to our friends and neighbors, Rich Phillips, Patty Delph, Todd and Penny Coram, Randy Vestal and David Beauchamp.
