JONESVILLE – Mrs. Joan Casstevens Swaim, 90, of Swan Creek Road passed away peacefully Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born April 4, 1935 in Yadkin County to the late Buford Howard and Rossie Mae Speaks Wooten. Mrs. Swaim retired from the Department of Agriculture, ASCS Office of Yadkin County, served on the Local Advisory Board for Yadkin County Department of Human Services, volunteered several years with the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Gift Shop and was a faithful member of North Oak Ridge Baptist Church where she also sang in the Adult Choir. Mrs. Swaim was always active working outside either gardening, walking, working in her flowers, shopping, quilting with family, or cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to the community. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Casstevens; a beloved daughter, Sherri Casstevens Smith; her grandson, Stuart Smith; her step-son, Rondal Swaim; and brothers, Kenneth Wooten, Douglas Wooten, Roger Wooten, and Keith Wooten. Surviving are her beloved husband, of 31 years, D.C. Swaim; her son, Jeffery “Jeff” Casstevens and wife, Darlene; step-daughter, Deanna McKnight and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Missy (Adam) Cook, Seth Smith (Lightning), Miranda Gray, Timothy (Kayla) McKnight, Kristen (Jimmy) Wagoner; great-grandchildren, Bailey Gray, Macy Gray, Stratton Smith, Sayda Smith, Carson Wagoner, Caylee Wagoner; her sisters, Rebecca Wooten (Larry) Moxley, Alice Wooten; brother, Gilbert (Collie) Wooten; her special son-in-law, Walter Smith; special neighbors, Steve and Shirley Bell; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Wednesday at North Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 PM Wednesday in the church with Rev. Phillip Link officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to North Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 2504 North Oak Ridge Road, Boonville, NC 27011. The family would like to express their gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice, Physicians, Nurses and staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, and Rev. Phillip Link for all the loving care given to Mrs. Swaim. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Swaim Family.
