Joel "Sonny" Maynard Long

Jonesville Mr. Joel “Sonny” Maynard Long, 78, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at his home. “Sonny” was born April 11, 1944 in Surry County to Hugh and Clesia Thompson Long. He was a veteran of the US Army. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Williams Long; two sisters, Hattie Gayle Shores and Lana Cave. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Long (Jeffrey Hurt); a sister, Faye Kane; a brother, Roger (Janet) Long; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Boonville Cemetery with military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM Saturday evening at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice PO Box 1267 Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Mtn. Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Sonny during this difficult time.
