John Wesley Shore, Jr.

February 11, 1965 — August 19, 2022

John Wesley Shore, Jr., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends on August 19, 2022.

John Wesley, as he was affectionately known, was born on February 11, 1965, in Elkin, North Carolina, to Johnny and Carolyn Shore.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny, as well as grandparents, Fletcher Shore and Parks & Nell Henderson.

John was a grandson to Ruby; brother to Bradley and Nicole; uncle to Hope (Anthony), Isaac, Jacob, and Sam; great uncle to Liam; and friend to many.

John graduated from Starmount High School, by the skin of his teeth, as part of the Class of 1983. Although he was not the most diligent student, he more than made up for it with his quick wit, intelligence, and thirst for knowledge. Many will attest that John was usually the smartest person in the room and was everyone’s favorite Trivial Pursuit partner. He was a “jack of all trades,” and held many professional interests, including hauling fruits, vegetables, and cars across the country, organic farming, and distribution of gourds, sunflowers, herbs, spices, and his special cough medicine.

In his last year of life, John worked at Foothills Sand to Glass, and learned the art of making stained glass.

John was a friend to all, and stranger to no one. He was always up for a card game, cooking and eating a good meal, and telling a story to get a laugh with anyone who would listen.

John lived the life he wanted to live, unapologetically, writing his own rules, and embracing the simplicity of life.

John’s family wishes to thank the staff at Novant Health CICU for their excellent care, with a very special thanks to his lifelong friend, Valerie Key.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Asbury United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of his nephews for their college funds.

He expressed his faith in 1980 and joined Asbury UMC where he will be buried.

Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Shore family.
