Joyce Ray Hamby

Yadkinville Mrs. Joyce Ray Hamby, 81, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 at SECU Hospice Home. Mrs. Hamby was born September 16, 1941 in Alamance County to Dewitt and Naomi Thompson Ray. She was a long-time member of Boonville Baptist Church. Mrs. Hamby enjoyed planting flowers, spending time with family, camping at Greenstreet and golfing with her husband Dan, and she loved shopping. Her day was made when it was spent with her 3 darlings, Chandler, Leslie, and Lanie. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by her first husband, James Darrell Whitesell; her second husband, James Daniel “Dan” Hamby; her grandson, Mark Colton Chappell; and a brother, “Tommy” Ray. She is survived by her children, Lisa (Larry) Wagoner, Tammy (Mark) Chappell, Joyce Ann Skiles, Larry Dean (Penny) Hamby, and Lynn (Steve) Gabel; grandchildren, Leslie (Jonathan) Jordan, Chandler Chappell, Lanie (Blayden) Tucker, Jessica (Anthony) Kidd, Joshua (Leah) Skiles, Stevie (Garrett) Forrister, Justin (Macey) Hamby, Mayson Foster, and Hayden Foster; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Evelyn, and Ava; three sisters, Peggy Stout, Barbara “Aunt Bootsie” Martin, and Rozelle Horne; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Boonville Baptist Church with Rev. John Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Boonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00PM, prior to the service in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SECU Hospice Home, 243 N Lee Ave, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of SECU Hospice Home, Clemmons Village II for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Hamby. Also, to Renee Jones, Bob & Dixie Adams, Cathy & Frank Macy, and Rev. John Brown for the visits, prayers, and love. A very special thank you goes to Aunt Bootsie for the encouragement and loving care that was given to Joyce while they were together at Clemmons Village. The special bond they shared will never be broken. Aunt Bootsie’s last words to Joyce were, “Thank you for being the best roommate a girl could ever have”. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Hamby family.
