Mrs. Kathleen Swaim Adams, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Yadkin Nursing Center. She was born on November 17, 1930, in Forsyth County to the late Melvin Swaim and Ethel Groce Swaim.
Kathleen dedicated many years of her life to serving others as a nurse at Lula Conrad Hoots Memorial Hospital in Yadkinville, Yadkin Nursing Center, and Winston-Salem Convalescent Center. Her kind hands and caring heart touched countless lives throughout her career.
She will be remembered most dearly as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Kathleen cherished her time with family, always bringing joy and laughter with her lighthearted sayings, such as “I’m looking for a treasure!” or “What did you bring me?” Whether bargain hunting at Goodwill and the Mission store, collecting seashells along the beach, or tending to her beloved dogs and cats, she found happiness in life’s simple pleasures.
Her creativity and talents shone through in the many cross-stitched, crocheted, and hand-sewn gifts she shared with family and friends. Kathleen also enjoyed the gift of music, often sitting at the piano and filling the room with melodies. She was a member of First Waughtown Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, where her faith and fellowship were a guiding light throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Adams; her twin sister, Josephine Andrews; and several cousins.
She is survived by her devoted son, Dr. Robin G. Dixon and wife, Cindi; grandsons, Rob Dixon and wife, Erica, and Ryan Dixon and wife, Madison; her brother, Eugene Swaim and wife, Mae; nieces, Holly (Casey) Joyner, Gina Myers, Debbie (Mike) Murray, and Sandy Higginbotham; nephew, Johnny (Judy) Dixon; sister-in-law, Jean Jarvis, and her special friend, Gail Shirley. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Tammy Boggs for her loving care given to Mrs. Adams.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00–2:00 PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel, led by her son, Dr. Robin Dixon, and her niece, Holly Joyner. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice, 5 East Main Street, Thomasville, NC 27360.
Kathleen’s warmth, laughter, and love will remain treasures in the hearts of all who knew her.
