Kathryn "Kathy" Ann Baker

Elkin – Kathryn "Kathy" Ann Baker, 78, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026. She was born March 29, 1948 in Forsyth County to the late Ernest Baker and Dixie Chappell Baker.

Throughout her upbringing, she actively participated in the Girl Scouts, earning the prestigious “Curved Bar,” the highest honor of achievement at the time. In 1966, she participated in the Miss Elkin Valley Pageant. She graduated as an honor graduate of the Jonesville High School class of 1966 and then enrolled at Winston-Salem Business College, where she obtained a degree in bookkeeping and a secretarial diploma. Subsequently, she joined the Jonesville division of Pepsi, the office of WIFM radio station, Bill Davidson Chevrolet, and embarked on a prolonged career at Beroth Oil Co. as the Operations Analyst for 22 years. Her most enduring legacy is her tenure at Ratledge Florist in Elkin, where she captivated people with her smile, warm demeanor, and exceptional customer service.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Ratledge; grandchildren, Morris “M.J.” Ratledge, Jr., Trent (Heather Bass) Hobson, Dylan Ratledge; great grandchildren, Bryce Hobson, Maddie Ratledge, Evelyn Ratledge; brother, Joe “Keith” Baker; and her feline friends, Blue and Mandy.

A private service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Annette McCann for being a wonderful friend to Kathy. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Baker family.
