Lillie loved her church and church family. She taught Sunday School for about 50 years, mission groups on Wednesday night, VBS and classes at the Association level. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and very active as long as her health permitted. Lillie was a member of the WMU, choir, sewing ministry and directed the Christmas program for many years. She also served on committees for the stained glass sanctuary windows, furniture, sound system and the new children’s wing of the church. Lillie also helped establish a Pastor’s Study in memory of her father-in-law, Clyde Hanes. She also re-landscaped the church grounds in memory of her husband, Thomas Loyd Hanes. In addition, she installed new chandeliers in the sanctuary in memory of her husband, Wallace Hurlocker.

Lillie’s hobbies included quilting, puzzles, reading and working in her beautiful yard. She also loved to travel and had visited 48 of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, London and Morocco.  She also had been an active member of the Yadkin County Extension Homemakers Club along with her dear friend, Poilly Wood.

Lillie was best known for her strong Christian values which she instilled in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also known for her independence, hard work and determination.

Lillie was predeceased by her parents, a bother, Nelson Pratt; husband Thomas Loyd Hanes and second husband Wallace Hurlocker. She is survived by two daughters, Donna (Ben) Holcomb of Piney Creek, NC and Myra Hanes of East Bend, NC; grandchildren Ryan (Sarah) Boles of Yadkinville, NC and Kristin Boles Laws of East Bend, NC. She was especially proud of her two great-grandsons, Timothy Carpenter and Teegan Boles who brought her great joy.
