Linda Dorse Oakes

Mrs. Linda Dorse Oakes, 85, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, May 4, 2026. She was born in Bethania township, Forsyth County, NC on October 2, 1940, to the late William Terry and Mary Poindexter Dorse. Linda always had an interest in learning from a young age. She was an honor roll student throughout her school career at Boonville School (class of 1958) and Appalachian State Teacher’s College (class of 1962). She was involved in many extra-curricular activities including Beta Club, chorus, class officer, being selected “Miss Boonville” and playing basketball. Linda obtained a degree in elementary education and taught in Forsyth County over 35 years. Linda married the love of her life, Glenn Carroll Oakes, December 23, 1962. Winston-Salem was their home for many years. They were very active members of Becks Baptist Church. They were greatly involved in the lives of their sons, Glenn and Billy, attending all sporting/extra-curricular events they were involved in. They enjoyed many camping trips with their church camping group. Linda and Carroll relocated back “home” in Boonville to spend time with aging parents and other relatives. All through the years they found joy in hosting many family gatherings where their homecooked food was plentiful. Linda also had a great love for researching ancestry, always eager to share discovered stories with the family. Linda treasured her family, valuing fellowship with loved ones. Her family was the love of her life. Linda was a faithful member of Boonville Baptist Church where she taught a ladies’ Sunday School class and served in the Good News Club at Boonville Elementary. Her five grandchildren were the wind beneath her wings. She spent many hours with them, teaching, guiding, singing, storytelling, and giving them the best of herself. She was a remarkable role model for all who knew her, overcoming many health challenges with strength and courage. Survivors include her husband, Glenn Carroll Oakes, Sr.; sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn (Luwonna), William (Kirsten); grandchildren, Riley, Cameron, Devon, McKenna (Andrew), and Keelyn; brother and sisters-in-law, Rickey (Phyllis) and Sharron; special nieces, nephews and all of her cousins. The Celebration of Life service will be at Boonville Baptist Church, 2:00 PM Saturday May 23, 2026. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior. The family requests memorials be considered for Boonville Baptist Church memo Yadkin Christian Ministries. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Oakes family.
