Maggie Bernice Bell Adams

Maggie Bernice Bell Adams passed away after an extended illness at the age of 97. She was born in Yadkin County to Amelia (Gentry) and David Franklin Bell. She was preceded in death by her husband Fonzo (Jack) Adams in 2005 and brothers Willie, Lester, and Buddy Bell. During World War II she lived in Baltimore where she worked at Lockheed Martin building B-52 bombers to support the war effort. She had many special memories of her time in Baltimore including going by train to Washington, DC to celebrate the night the war ended. After returning to North Carolina, she met and married Jack and worked at Hoots Hospital where she retired at age 85 from the Emergency Room. She was active in Longtown United Methodist Church where she held numerous leadership positions over the years. She loved to travel, garden, cook, crochet, and cheer on her beloved Tarheels during basketball season. She is survived by son Ben (JoAnne) Adams of Orlando, FL; daughter Pam (Allen) Wilson of Chapel Hill; and granddaughter Elizabeth (Morgan) Meredith of Los Angeles, CA. The family wishes to thank special caregiver Pennie Anthony who had been faithfully by her side for the past 5 years including during Covid lockdown; long term caregivers Christy Martin, Lou Macemore, Eden Ashley; her in home caregiver Emily Bradford; friend Shirlene Trivette, Home Instead caregivers; Dr. Joanie Williams; Dr. Tamas Soos; and the staff of Pruitt Health. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at Longtown United Methodist Church on October 17 at 11:00 by Rev. Mark Smith with burial following in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Longtown United Methodist Church Back Pack Program (1416 Longtown Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055); Yadkin County Senior Center – Meals On Wheels (PO Box 1878, Yadkinville, NC 27055); or a charity of choice. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Adams family.
