Margaret Ann Salmons Cartner

July 8, 1938 — December 19, 2025

Mrs. Margaret Ann Salmons Cartner, 87, of Lone Hickory Road, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 19, 2025, passing peacefully at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.

Margaret was born on July 8, 1938, in Yadkin County to the late James Harley Salmons and Lillie Cockerham Salmons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey Gilbert Cartner; her brothers, Albert, Claude, and Glenn Salmons; and her sisters, Dorothy Miller, Kathleen Hemric, Mary Ruth Eaton, and Frances Vestal.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Terri Ann Cartner; her sisters, Phyllis Sawyer of Greensboro and Peggy Warden of Waxhaw; her brother-in-law Nelson Vestal of Yadkinville; and many loving nieces and nephews who were a great joy in her life.

Margaret was an active woman of faith, kindness, and service. She was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Olive Global Methodist Church, where she loved attending worship and being part of her church family.

Margaret spent much of her career working at Western Electric. In her retirement, she enjoyed helping others by delivering meals to those in need through Meals on Wheels until the program was paused during the COVID pandemic. She very much liked quilting with her friends at the Yadkin Senior Center and took pride in being a master gardener. She loved growing vegetables and canning the harvest from her garden, often giving the canned goods away. Serving others brought her great fulfillment and reflected her generous spirit.

She also treasured time spent with her husband, Gilbert, at their place on Badin Lake. There, they enjoyed boating and fishing together and took great pleasure in entertaining family and friends. Those gatherings created many cherished memories filled with laughter, fellowship, and love.

Margaret deeply valued the people God placed in her life. She cherished her close friend, Glenda Sapp, who faithfully called her each day to check on her well-being. She was also especially loved and cared for by her devoted niece, Terri Childress, who brought great comfort to Margaret’s life during her struggle with dementia and lovingly ensured that all of her needs were met. In her final months, her two living sisters would stay with her, and together they enjoyed reflecting on stories of their upbringing in Yadkin County and their sister Frances who recently passed.

She will be dearly missed.

The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, December 23, at Gentry Family Funeral Services of Yadkinville from 2 :30 to 3 :30 pm with funeral services at 3 :30 pm in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Kevin Jasper and Rev. Wayne Moose officiating. Burial will take place in Yadkin Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mitch Hargis and Bailey, an exceptional nurse, for the compassionate and excellent care shown to Margaret while she was in the Emergency Department at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.
