Yadkinville – Lois Holcomb Williams, 87, went to join the heavens and her Lord on the 23rd day of November. Lois was born on January 17, 1937, to Governor Bickett and Mary Ruth Hutchens Holcomb. She grew up in the Center community. Lois was a devout member of the Yadkinville United Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer for over 20 years. She also worked with Connie Randleman as book keeper and secretary for the Yadkinville Methodist Preschool, and leaves behind a lifelong friend, Margaret Brown.
She was a graduate of Yadkinville High School, Class of 1955, and a graduate of Mitchell College in Statesville in 1957. She was married to the late James Johnson Williams in 1957. She traveled with him to many different Army bases. She served as secretary to several colonels during that time. She was a seamstress and made many of her daughter’s and granddaughter’s clothes and dresses.
She was a member of the Early Morning YMCA Walk Group. She was there at 5:15 AM weekdays to walk her mile and return home to start her day. She especially enjoyed her birds visiting the feeder outside her dining room window.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter, Amanda Morgan Williams and a great granddaughter, Ava Madison Short. Lois is survived by her children, Paul J Williams of Yadkinville and Beth Mueller (Volker) of Chapel Hill, NC; and two grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 29, 2024 at Center Global Methodist Church by the Rev. Justin Douglass. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Center Global Methodist Church.
